Volunteer House Vietnam was officially put into operation on 1 January 2015, as a non-profit organization established for the purpose of helping Vietnamese children improve their English skills, meanwhile, providing free accommodation for travelers or backpackers who are proficient in English and able to teach English to local children.
Our goal is to set up at least one free English class in each province of Vietnam by 2020 for children, especially for disadvantaged ones from 9-12 years old, to be taught by our volunteers and travelers.
After the courses, we expect that children can improve their listening and speaking skills, which are their main weaknesses.
Achievements
After the test phase, Volunteer House Vietnam has so far obtained significant results:
– Over 500 volunteers from over the country have registered to become members; in which over 200 registrants have already been involved to implement Volunteer House Vietnam’s activities.
– 80 free accommodations from 20 provices of Vietnam has been offered to Volunteer House Vietnam, updated on 20 March 2015.
– 3 English classes in Ho Chi Minh City and 1 English class in Hanoi were established. We expect to expand our system towards other areas of Vietnam such as Hue, Can Tho, Sapa, Ca Mau, Ben Tre, etc…
– According to the principle of “Vietnamese language is not allowed during class” combined with teaching methods focusing on speaking and speaking skills, we have initially helped students learn how to react towards English and get self-confidence in English communication.
What do people think about Volunteer House Vietnam?
Mauro Trentin – Operations Manager of NCI Packaging Vietnam: “We have a limited communication. We knew this is an english class is for the disadvantage children. We didn’t know more than that. Coming here we found that children required shy and we have a little bit shy also because we never done anything like this before. But when playing with music, it can bring out many things from people. It’s very good to connect many people. Tonight children have a great time, we have a great time. we would like to com back no problem. I think it’s great when you can get some emotions and the feeling from the people. Thank you very much for your invite to com here.”
Mr.Cuong – Leader of Logistics Team: “Our difficulty is how to help foreigners get permission to do volunteer work in Vietnam. As they are travelers so they only stay here for a while.”
Mrs. Lan: A student’s parent: “It is very beneficial for not only my children but other people’s children to be able to study free of charge. For people like us with an average income, we cannot afford to send our children to the English centers. Thank you, volunteer house class, for contributing your valuable time to teach the children.”
Ms. Linh –Founder of Volunteer House Vietnam: “Many people asked me what if this project fails?. My answer is: If this project fails, at least it would demonstrate that we have tried our best to do something good for society rather than just sitting here and doing nothing.”
With the growth of volunteers and the support from our community, we believe that Vietnamese children can confidently communicate in English – which is the key for them to open the door to the world in the near future.
